Wiley and Anthropic partner to embed peer-reviewed research into AI workflows
Integration of Model Context Protocol aims to ensure responsible, citation-based AI use in academic and scientific research
Wiley and Anthropic have announced a strategic partnership focused on embedding high-quality, peer-reviewed research content directly into AI tools using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard designed to improve how authoritative sources are accessed and cited within large language models.
Through the partnership, Anthropic’s Claude platform will integrate Wiley content in a pilot program aimed at university users and researchers. The initiative seeks to streamline discovery while ensuring scientific integrity, including author attribution and proper citation practices.
While primarily targeting academic research, the collaboration signals a broader effort to establish interoperability standards across AI platforms, which may impact life sciences discovery workflows and support regulatory expectations around transparency and traceability in AI-assisted literature reviews.
“This is about ensuring that trusted scientific content remains discoverable and properly contextualized in an AI-driven world,” said Josh Jarrett, SVP of AI Growth at Wiley. Anthropic’s Lauren Collett added that the partnership demonstrates a shared focus on AI that “amplifies human thinking” without compromising academic integrity.
The news forms part of Anthropic’s Claude for Education initiative, which includes tools and partnerships across higher education and research sectors. Wiley noted that the move aligns with its responsible AI principles and broader efforts to support research in fields such as life sciences and education.
