Nabsys launches RepX for repeat expansion analysis

Nabsys has launched RepX, a genomic analysis pipeline designed to examine disease-associated repeat expansions using single-molecule DNA mapping data.

The pipeline is available through the company’s Nabsys Navigator cloud platform and uses Electronic Genome Mapping (EGM) data generated by its OhmX platform.

Repeat expansions occur when short DNA sequences are repeated more times than usual. These expansions are associated with inherited disorders, but characterising them can be challenging, particularly when researchers need to understand differences in expansion size and variation within individual alleles.

Analysing repeat expansions across multiple loci

RepX is designed to analyse up to 23 disease-associated repeat expansion loci in a single run. Nabsys says the pipeline can use data generated by its standard OhmX VOLT Whole Genome Kit, allowing researchers to investigate repeat expansions alongside genome-wide structural variants and copy number variants using the same dataset.

Electronic Genome Mapping analyses individual ultra-long DNA molecules without amplification or ligation. According to Nabsys, avoiding these processes can help address potential biases associated with sample preparation and enable researchers to investigate the distribution of repeat expansion sizes and repeat instability within each allele.

The technology is intended for research use only and is not approved for diagnostic procedures.

Barrett Bready, founder and CEO of Nabsys, said: “Repeat expansion research benefits from understanding not just expansion size, but how it varies within an allele,”

He added: “RepX pairs those EGM single-molecule insights with the potential for low-cost, multi-locus analysis—advancing our goal of making single-molecule genomics accessible to every lab.”

One dataset for multiple genomic analyses

RepX joins two other analysis tools available through Nabsys Navigator. SV-Discover supports genome-wide structural variant analysis, while SV-Verify is designed to confirm structural variants identified using other technologies.

The integration of these tools means researchers can use data from the same whole-genome kit for different types of genomic analysis, rather than generating separate datasets for each application.

However, the company has not disclosed comparative performance data, independent validation results or detailed pricing in its announcement. Further information would be needed to assess how RepX compares with existing repeat expansion analysis methods in terms of accuracy, throughput and cost.

Nabsys to demonstrate RepX at ASHG 2026

Nabsys plans to demonstrate RepX and its Navigator platform at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) 2026 Annual Meeting in Montréal, Canada, from 20–24 October.

The company will also present five posters covering its Electronic Genome Mapping technology. These include research on the use of CRISPR/Cas9 to customise repeat expansion assays and optimise Electronic Genome Mapping.

The presentations will provide an opportunity for researchers to learn more about the technology and its potential applications in genomic analysis.

The release of RepX adds another application to Nabsys’s platform for investigating genome structure. Its practical value will depend on how well the pipeline performs across different repeat expansion loci and how its cost and analytical capabilities compare with existing approaches.
