APAC ablation catheter market set to grow 14% as pulsed field ablation gains ground
The Asia-Pacific electrophysiology ablation catheter market is forecast to grow at a 14% compound annual growth rate through 2035, driven by rising atrial fibrillation rates and increasing adoption of minimally invasive cardiac procedures.
The region accounted for 16% of the global electrophysiology ablation catheter market in 2025, according to market analysis from GlobalData.
Growth is also being supported by increasing interest in newer ablation technologies, particularly pulsed field ablation (PFA), as electrophysiology centres across the region expand their cardiac rhythm management capabilities.
PFA adoption grows across APAC
PFA uses short electrical pulses to target cardiac tissue and differs from conventional thermal approaches such as radiofrequency and cryoablation.
A recent survey of electrophysiologists in Australia, China, Japan and South Korea found increasing confidence in PFA for atrial fibrillation treatment. Among those surveyed, 71% reported shorter procedure times with PFA compared with conventional ablation, while 63% reported higher patient satisfaction and 56% said the technology had an easier learning curve.
The findings point to growing clinical interest in PFA as hospitals and electrophysiology teams look for ways to improve the efficiency of AFib procedures.
Shagufta Hasan, medical devices analyst at GlobalData, said: “The growing clinical adoption of PFA across countries such as Australia, China, Japan, and South Korea signals a broader shift across APAC toward next-generation electrophysiology technologies.”
She added that stronger electrophysiology capabilities and demand for minimally invasive cardiac procedures could help the region remain an important growth market.
Healthcare access remains a barrier
Despite increasing interest in advanced ablation technologies, adoption remains uneven across APAC.
Delayed patient referrals, reimbursement challenges, shortages of trained healthcare professionals and differences in hospital infrastructure can all affect access to electrophysiology procedures.
The variation between healthcare systems means that technological availability does not necessarily translate into wider patient access.
This could become increasingly important as the prevalence of atrial fibrillation rises and healthcare systems face growing demand for cardiac rhythm management.
Hasan said: “While technological innovation is reshaping atrial fibrillation management, realizing the full potential of electrophysiology ablation technologies will require stronger referral pathways, expanded clinician training, improved reimbursement frameworks, and enhanced healthcare system readiness.”
Market growth tied to wider AFib treatment trends
The projected growth in the APAC electrophysiology ablation catheter market reflects a broader shift towards catheter-based treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
As electrophysiology services expand in major markets including China, Japan, Australia and South Korea, demand for ablation technologies is expected to increase alongside investment in specialist infrastructure and clinical training.
PFA is likely to remain an important area of development as clinicians gain more experience with the technology and healthcare systems assess its role alongside established ablation approaches.
However, the pace of adoption will depend not only on technological advances but also on whether healthcare systems can address workforce, reimbursement and referral barriers.
The combination of increasing AFib prevalence, growing use of minimally invasive procedures and continued development of electrophysiology technologies is expected to support the APAC market’s expansion over the coming decade.
