Tjoapack expands US site to bolster packaging capacity and cold chain capabilities

Tjoapack is expanding its US operations with a major build at its Clinton, Tennessee site, adding capacity across packaging, labelling and logistics as demand for outsourced pharmaceutical services continues to rise. The company is developing a new 170,000-square-foot facility next to its existing site, creating an integrated hub that will include a full GMP suite alongside cold chain and ambient storage.

The project, scheduled for completion in early 2027, will support new high-speed packaging lines across oral solid dose formats such as bottles and blisters, as well as injectable products including vials and auto-injectors. Tjoapack said the expansion will also accommodate a wider range of secondary packaging configurations, reflecting increased interest from clients looking for flexible, multi-format capacity in the US.

Dexter Tjoa, CEO of Tjoapack, said: “This expansion marks a major step in our strategic goal to enhance our presence in the United States. As a crucial market with considerable growth opportunities, it allows us to serve our existing clients more effectively and attract new ones.”

The company said a central aim of the project is to improve workflow efficiency across the packaging pathway. Tjoa added: “We’ve invested heavily in automating our core processes, not only within packaging lines but throughout our cross-company workflows with customers and material vendors. This allows us to reduce human error and enhance accuracy, speed and flexibility, which ultimately benefits our clients.”

The expansion builds on two years of upgrades to the firm’s injectable packaging infrastructure. In May 2025, Tjoapack commissioned and validated an automated vial packaging line that integrates high-speed labelling, cartoning and full serialisation functionality, with an annual capacity of around 15–20 million vials.

A semi-automated auto-injector packaging line followed in September 2025, adding advanced labelling and cartoning capabilities intended to support growing demand across biologics and specialty products. The facility also increased its cold storage footprint in October 2024, adding 160 pallet spaces for products requiring 2–8°C storage, representing a 2.5-fold expansion.

Tjoapack said the Clinton development will enable a more cohesive packaging and logistics offer across its US network. The enlarged site will provide space for both high-volume commercial packaging and smaller, more specialised client requirements, while allowing the company to consolidate workflow steps that currently sit across separate operational units.

The investment also signals continued interest in US market expansion from European contract packaging organisations, many of which are positioning themselves to support anticipated growth in speciality medicines, injectables and temperature-controlled therapies. Tjoapack said the new site is designed to meet the long-term needs of clients seeking secure, scalable and compliant supply chain solutions with proximity to major logistics routes.
