ASP launches instant read steam system for near-immediate sterility assurance
Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) has introduced a new steam biological indicator system that provides a readout in just seven seconds — significantly faster than the typical 20-minute wait with standard systems.
The BIOTRACE Instant Read Steam System is designed for sterile processing departments (SPDs), enabling faster decision-making, fewer delays, and improved clinical workflows. According to ASP, the system allows teams to verify sterilization almost instantly, streamlining the transition from processing to documentation in fast-paced hospital environments.
“This launch represents a major step in delivering fast, actionable sterility data to frontline staff,” said Dr Ivan Salgo, VP and chief medical and scientific officer at ASP. “By reducing the readout time to just seconds, we’re addressing a long-standing bottleneck that impacts productivity and peace of mind.”
The new system uses fluorescence detection and supports routine monitoring without compromising accuracy. The compact device handles two tests at once, stores up to 50 results, and connects to hospital systems via USB, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. It also integrates with digital platforms including the BIOTRACE Assist app and a secure web application, supporting traceability and automated reporting via common instrument tracking systems.
“ASP is proud to support frontline staff with technology that empowers their work,” said Chad Rohrer, global president of ASP. “This is about doing more with less while maintaining high standards of infection prevention.”
A recent usability study by ASP indicated that throughput and staffing remain major concerns for SPDs. Respondents expressed strong interest in time-saving systems that offer immediate verification, particularly in high-pressure settings.
