Bios Life launches with $25M funding and Tempus cancer AI partnership

Bios Life has emerged from stealth with $25M in seed funding and a multi-year Tempus partnership to develop personalised cancer risk and surveillance models.

AI platform targets cancer surveillance

Bios Life has emerged from stealth with $25 million in seed funding and a multi-year strategic alliance with Tempus to develop AI-supported cancer risk and surveillance tools.

The Boston-based company is developing a virtual care platform for people at higher risk of cancer and cancer survivors, combining genomic and clinical information with ongoing patient monitoring.

The seed round was led by Redmile, Vsquared Ventures and Kindred Capital, with additional investment from healthcare and technology investors in the US and Europe.

Bios Life plans to launch its virtual care platform in the US during the second half of 2026.

The company is targeting people who may require more personalised cancer surveillance than is provided by episodic screening. Its proposed platform is designed to continuously update an individual’s risk profile using multiple sources of health and genomic data.

Bios Life said its system will combine AI models with care delivered by licensed clinical teams, with the aim of supporting personalised screening and surveillance strategies over time.

Tempus data to train predictive models

The partnership with Tempus is a central component of the company’s technology development strategy.

Under the multi-year alliance, Bios Life will use de-identified multimodal oncology datasets from Tempus to train and validate predictive models across a range of common cancers.

The datasets can include different types of clinical and molecular information, allowing Bios Life to investigate relationships between patient characteristics, cancer risk and disease progression.

The companies also plan to incorporate hereditary cancer testing through Ambry Genetics, which is part of Tempus.

Ryan Fukushima, CEO of data and apps at Tempus, said the collaboration could support a more continuous approach to cancer risk assessment.

“At Tempus, we believe the future of cancer care isn’t just better treatments, it needs better prediction,” Fukushima said.

He said combining Tempus’ multimodal data platform and Ambry’s hereditary genetics expertise with Bios Life’s virtual care model could help develop more personalised surveillance strategies for people at elevated cancer risk and cancer survivors.

Bios Life also holds commercial rights to the Nucleotide Transformer genomics foundation model developed by BioNTech and InstaDeep. The model is designed to analyse genomic sequences and assess the potential effects of genetic variation.

From screening to continuous surveillance

Bios Life describes its proposed system as a continuously updated “digital twin” for each patient, bringing together information about an individual’s biology and health over time.

The company is developing separate personalised cancer risk and cancer surveillance platforms as part of the wider system.

The approach is intended to move away from one-off assessments towards ongoing monitoring that can adapt as a person’s risk factors and clinical information change.

However, the technology remains at an early stage. Bios Life has not publicly established that its predictive models improve cancer outcomes, and the company is still developing and validating the platform using clinical and genomic datasets.

The company said its platform will initially be available in the US, with consumers currently able to join a waitlist.

Ryan Richardson, co-founder and CEO of Bios Life, said the company was targeting people who are currently underserved by personalised cancer surveillance.

“Tens of millions of high-risk individuals and cancer survivors lack access to cutting-edge care which is tailored to their particular needs and their unique biology,” Richardson said.

The $25 million financing will support development of Bios Life’s technology and virtual care model as it moves towards the planned US launch.
