Marvel teams up with Insulet to launch superhero living with type 1 diabetes

New comic book aims to break stigma and showcase Omnipod 5 technology through the journey of a Marvel-inspired teen hero

Insulet, the company behind the Omnipod tubeless insulin pump, has partnered with Marvel to create a new comic book featuring a teen superhero living with type 1 diabetes. The story centers around Omnya, a high school student who struggles with diabetes management until she embraces technology and transforms into Dyasonic, a Marvel-style hero.

The collaboration is designed to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and empower people living with diabetes — particularly children and young adults — by portraying the real-life challenges of the condition through the lens of a relatable comic book character.

“Managing diabetes, especially when it involves intensive insulin therapy, requires making countless decisions,” said Ashley McEvoy, Insulet president and CEO.

“Collaborating with Marvel empowers readers from the diabetes community to see themselves represented. Diabetes can be a part of what makes you strong.”

The comic, written by Paul Allor, who lives with diabetes himself, offers an authentic narrative. It highlights how adopting insulin pump technology, such as Omnipod 5, can transform diabetes care and improve quality of life.

The story is supported by findings from a U.S. survey conducted by Insulet. While 94% of people with type 1 diabetes said accurate representation matters, more than half reported they rarely or never saw it in the media. The same survey showed that one in three people tend to hide their condition — often due to fear of judgment or stigma.

“Representation remains critical in shaping perceptions and reducing stigma around chronic conditions,” said Jeff Hitchcock, founder and CEO of Children with Diabetes. “Seeing a hero who lives with diabetes — and thrives — can open the door to conversations about management and support.”

Insulet is also partnering with Children with Diabetes to provide scholarships for families to attend the Friends For Life Orlando conference. The broader campaign encourages people living with diabetes to share their stories online and continue the conversation sparked by Dyasonic: Sound of Strength.
