Thermo Fisher launches DXR3 SmartRaman+ for at-line pharmaceutical and industrial testing

Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched the DXR3 SmartRaman+ Raman Spectrometer to support faster, non-destructive at-line quality control in pharmaceutical and industrial settings.

The system integrates Raman spectroscopy with automated sampling and custom sample holders, allowing analysis through final product containers without affecting sample integrity. This enables teams to detect defects or contaminants earlier in production while preserving samples for further testing.

Ganesh Prasad, general manager for vibrational spectroscopy products at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: “The DXR3 SmartRaman+ is designed to bring confidence and efficiency to quality control workflows. By combining non-destructive Raman analysis with automated sampling and intuitive operation, it helps teams detect contaminants faster, reduce sample waste, and is designed to ensure consistent product quality across pharmaceutical and industrial manufacturing.”

The spectrometer supports 532 nanometre and 785 nanometre laser wavelengths, offering flexibility for analysing liquids, powders, and finished packaged goods. Automated sampling and data transfer reduce operator variability and speed up testing, while user-switchable lasers and plug-and-play software simplify integration and training requirements.

Thermo Fisher highlighted several applications for the DXR3 SmartRaman+, including fill-and-finish quality control in pharmaceutical manufacturing, adulterant detection in consumer products, and defect analysis in industrial laboratories.

By enabling accurate Raman analysis without compromising samples, the DXR3 SmartRaman+ aims to streamline quality control workflows, helping organisations ensure product quality from early production stages through final packaging.
