Atelerix signs deal with CliniSciences to expand access to cryo-free cell preservation in Europe and North Africa
Atelerix has signed a new distribution agreement with CliniSciences that will extend access to its cryo-free preservation products across Europe and into North Africa. The deal marks another step in the Newcastle-based biotech’s strategy to scale up operations and address demand for alternatives to traditional cryopreservation.
CliniSciences is a specialist distributor for life sciences and diagnostics, with an established presence in markets including immunology, cell biology and molecular biology. The partnership is designed to strengthen technical support across Europe, while opening new channels in North Africa – a region where life sciences investment and infrastructure are expanding rapidly.
Atelerix develops hydrogel-based solutions to preserve the viability of cells and tissues during storage and transport. Unlike cryopreservation, which requires liquid nitrogen and cold-chain logistics, hydrogel encapsulation allows biological materials to be transported at ambient temperatures. This avoids the complications of freezing and thawing, which are linked to energy use, high costs, waste and reduced viability of samples.
Wilfried Gay, scientific manager at CliniSciences, said: “Atelerix’s patented hydrogels offer a unique approach to cell preservation and the transport of other temperature-sensitive biological substances to address obstacles in the logistics supply chain. We’re pleased to enter into this new partnership with Atelerix, which will allow us to bring these innovative cell preservation solutions to our customers, and let them focus on what is most important to them – advancing research.”
Alastair Carrington, chief executive at Atelerix, added that CliniSciences’ reach across academic and biopharma networks made it an ideal partner to accelerate adoption. He said: “With its established
customer base and extensive team of technical experts across the continent, CliniSciences was the obvious choice of partner to expand our operations in Europe and enter the burgeoning North African life science market. Together, we are not only strengthening our presence in these key regions but also removing barriers to adoption – making it simpler for companies worldwide to access our products and integrate them into their own supply chain.”
The company said demand for non-cryogenic preservation is increasing as researchers and diagnostic labs seek more efficient and sustainable options for moving biological materials. The CliniSciences deal is expected to expand Atelerix’s customer base significantly while improving technical support and local availability across multiple markets.
