Gifthealth acquires Occam Health to expand digital pharmacy and patient access services

Gifthealth has acquired Occam Health Services in a move that will create a nationwide digital pharmacy platform and patient access hub designed to streamline delivery of therapies to patients across the United States.

The combined organisation brings together Gifthealth’s direct-to-patient digital pharmacy automation with Occam’s specialty hub expertise. By merging the two approaches, the new platform is intended to reduce fragmentation in the patient journey, accelerate access to medicines and provide biopharma partners with a single partner solution.

Gifthealth currently serves more than six million patients annually across 20 brands, including both high-volume, lower-cost medicines and specialty and rare disease therapies. With the integration of Occam, the company expects to set new benchmarks for patient access. Internal data highlights improved dispense rates, faster refill success and shorter delivery times compared with national averages.

More than 175,000 prescribers across multiple specialties are already using the combined platform to support patients in accessing therapies more quickly and maintaining adherence. The solution integrates with electronic health record systems, enabling prescribers to select the digital pharmacy option at the point of care. Scripts are then routed to the lowest patient cost in-network option, either through Gifthealth’s dispensing pharmacies or partner pharmacies.

The senior leadership team will be led by chief executive officer Chip Parkinson, who brings experience in pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, health plans and pharmacy benefit consulting.

“Gifthealth and Occam deliver a ready-now digital and human-touch solution built for manufacturers – one that works with established supply chain realities but can also challenge misaligned incentives that lead to high friction for patients,” said Parkinson. “The combination arrives just as innovators confront a push for direct-to-patient pricing and consumers demanding dramatically improved patient journey and pharmacy experiences.”

Neil Vangala, managing director at Eir Partners and director at Gifthealth, added: “The combination of Gift and Occam is exciting because it merges Gifthealth’s rapidly growing, technology-first platform and Occam’s high-touch hub expertise to create the industry’s largest and most versatile digital access solution. Our ability to serve brands ranging from low-cost, high volume to higher-value, lower volume medicines is a gamechanger for large portfolio manufacturers.”

Gifthealth is now positioned to operate across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, offering services that integrate automated prescription routing, pharmacy dispensing, real-time pricing transparency and multi-channel patient engagement. The acquisition builds on the company’s strategy to expand access and improve adherence outcomes for patients while offering a scalable, integrated model for biopharma partners.
