HORIBA to build new global headquarters to strengthen operations and drive innovation

Last Updated: 17 February 2026By

HORIBA, Ltd., a global leader in analytical and measurement instrumentation used across industries including pharmaceuticals and life sciences, has announced plans to construct a new global headquarters on the site of its current head office in Kisshoin, Minami‑ku, Kyoto.

HORIBA’s instruments support drug discovery, R&D, process development, and quality control in pharma and biotech, making the company a key enabler for advanced life sciences operations. Construction began in December 2025, with completion expected in January 2028.

The new 10-story building with one basement level will have roughly 11 times the floor area of the existing head office, which opened in 1997. The project, part of HORIBA’s “HORIBA World Headquarters Project,” is designed to strengthen global operations, streamline domestic sites, and support the company’s long-term goal of achieving annual revenue of 1 trillion yen.

A core feature of the new headquarters will be a dedicated global operations floor, housing a business strategy team composed of multinational talent. This team will serve as a cross-functional hub, connecting R&D, sales, and administrative functions across HORIBA to enable rapid strategic decision-making and enhance collaboration between domestic and international sites.

The building’s design is based on Activity Based Working principles, allowing employees to choose spaces suited to specific tasks. A central atrium and open work areas will encourage collaboration and communication across departments and roles. Visitor-focused areas on the first and second floors will showcase HORIBA’s history, technologies, and product portfolio, with immersive displays demonstrating how its instruments support industries including pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and environmental analysis. Some areas may also be used for external educational programmes to support STEAM initiatives.

Operational efficiency will be improved through consolidation of planning, strategy, administration, and sales functions across HORIBA’s group companies. Existing sites in the Kyoto–Shiga area, including the Biwako factory and Kyoto Fukuchiyama Factory, will focus on development, manufacturing, and service functions. The new headquarters will enable optimized resource allocation, co-creation initiatives, and enhanced global collaboration.

Masayuki Adachi, president of HORIBA, said the project lays the foundation for sustainable growth and positions the company to respond flexibly to changes in the business environment while advancing innovation on a global scale.
