Natus expands AI-powered EEG analysis across Europe

Natus has expanded access to its AI-powered EEG analysis tool across Europe and international markets through an update to its BRAIN QUICK Software.

Natus Medical has expanded access to its AI-powered EEG analysis tool autoSCORE through the latest update of its BRAIN QUICK Software platform, bringing automated EEG interpretation to clinicians in Europe and other international markets.

The autoSCORE tool is designed to support EEG analysis using a deep-learning model trained on 30,000 expertly labelled EEG recordings. The technology is intended to help clinicians assess multiple clinically relevant abnormalities and provide study-level assessments indicating whether an EEG recording is normal or abnormal.

The expansion follows the tool’s initial launch with Natus NeuroWorks EEG Software in the US in August 2024. Natus announced in March that autoSCORE had received the CE mark for use in European and other international markets.

The integration into BRAIN QUICK Software means the AI-supported analysis tool is now available through a second Natus EEG software platform, expanding access to automated EEG interpretation for healthcare professionals using the system.

EEG interpretation can require significant clinical time and expertise, particularly in high-volume settings and complex cases. Natus said the autoSCORE tool is designed to reduce the demands placed on clinical resources and staff by automating elements of the analysis process.

The system goes beyond traditional spike and seizure detection, according to the company, by assessing multiple clinically relevant abnormalities and providing an overall assessment of an EEG study. The tool is also based on a closed AI model, which Natus said is intended to support consistency and security.

The expansion comes as artificial intelligence is increasingly being explored as a way to support clinical workflows and help healthcare professionals manage growing volumes of diagnostic data.

Professor Oriano Mecarelli of the Department of Neurosciences at Sapienza University of Rome said: “Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform EEG practice in the same way digital EEG transformed neurophysiology decades ago.”

He added: “Tools like autoSCORE may help expand access to expertise, improve workflow efficiency, and support clinicians in increasingly complex environments.”

Cristiano Rizzo, Natus general manager EMEA/APAC, said: “Our autoSCORE AI tool represents a meaningful step forward in digital neurodiagnostics, where precision, speed, and clinical confidence come together to benefit both healthcare professionals and the patients they serve.”

He added that the aim was to support neurologists with technology that augments their expertise and provides timely, data-driven insights.

Natus said clinicians using the latest version of BRAIN QUICK Software in Europe had highlighted the reliability of the EEG recording technology, particularly in high-volume and complex settings such as presurgical evaluation.

The company said the availability of autoSCORE through both NeuroWorks and BRAIN QUICK Software provides a foundation for further development of AI-supported neurodiagnostic technologies.

The latest expansion does not replace clinical interpretation but is intended to support healthcare professionals by automating elements of EEG analysis and helping them review and interpret recordings more efficiently.
