Opella appoints former Reckitt executive Gonzalo Balcazar to lead Europe and Latin America
Opella has appointed Gonzalo Balcazar as president of Europe and Latin America (EULA), as the consumer health company strengthens its commercial leadership across key international markets.
Balcazar joins Opella from Reckitt, where he led a €2.5bn household care business as senior vice president. He also previously held senior commercial roles at Procter & Gamble, focusing on sales, trade marketing and business transformation across multiple regions.
The company said the appointment will support its focus on go-to-market execution and regional growth across its consumer health portfolio.
Balcazar will also join Opella’s executive committee.
Balcazar said: “I’m excited to join the teams across Europe and Latin America and work alongside them to understand what matters most to our consumers and partners. By listening, learning, and sharing expertise, we can create meaningful solutions that truly improve health and well-being in our communities.”
Opella chief executive Julie Van Ongevalle said the appointment will support the company’s commercial ambitions across the region.
She said: “With Gonzalo’s leadership, we’re doubling down on our promise to deliver innovative health solutions that move the needle for communities across Europe and Latin America.”
Opella operates in the over-the-counter (OTC) and vitamins, minerals and supplements market and is headquartered in France. The company describes itself as a self-care focused business with a portfolio of consumer health brands and a global manufacturing and innovation footprint.
The EULA leadership appointment comes as consumer health companies continue to compete for growth across established and emerging markets, with a focus on retail execution, supply chain strength and brand expansion.
Balcazar is expected to work closely with regional partners, healthcare professionals and retail networks to identify growth opportunities and strengthen commercial performance across Europe and Latin America.
