SGD Pharma targets 42% emissions cut by 2030 in new sustainability report
Company aligns with CSRD and reports top 1% EcoVadis ranking
SGD Pharma has published its 2024 sustainability report, outlining new environmental targets and social responsibility milestones as part of its push to lead decarbonisation in the pharmaceutical glass packaging sector.
The company has committed to a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, increasing its ambition from previous targets. Its facilities in France and China have already implemented cleaner furnace technology as part of the shift.
CEO Olivier Rousseau said: “We have decided to lead the decarbonisation of the pharma glass industry. We’ve already made significant steps across our global manufacturing plants… and look forward to further increasing the share of renewable energy in our operations.”
The report also highlights:
A Platinum EcoVadis score of 87/100, placing SGD Pharma in the top 1% of glass manufacturers globally
Approval of its updated Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) emissions plan
Certification across all four manufacturing sites (France, China, India and Germany) to ISO 14001, 45001 and 50001 standards
1,000 accident-free days at its Zhanjiang, China site
10,000 mangrove trees planted in China in 2024
For the first time, the report has been aligned with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), underpinned by a double materiality assessment (DMA) of its full value chain. The assessment included an analysis of greenhouse gas risks and a living wage audit across all locations.
The company also reported new efforts in staff engagement and inclusion, with global rollout of its employee survey platform, Your Voice, and new training initiatives to support development and diversity.
Ethics and supply chain standards were another focus, with the company completing a global anti-corruption risk map and hosting its Europe Supplier Day to align sustainability efforts across its glass and logistics ecosystem.
