Symeres welcomes Jurgen Berendsen as CFO to support global expansion

Symeres has appointed Jurgen Berendsen as chief financial officer, strengthening the company’s leadership team as it enters the next phase of global growth.

Based in Nijmegen, the contract research, development, and manufacturing organisation (CRDMO) provides integrated services across biopharma. Berendsen previously served as senior group controller at Symeres and returns with more than 15 years of financial leadership experience across professional services and international trade, including KPMG, Hoogwegt International, and Royal Reesink, where he was vice president of finance and control.

Berendsen said: “Returning to Symeres as CFO is an extremely exciting opportunity. Symeres has all the ingredients for long-term growth and success. I am proud to join a strong and dedicated leadership team who is unwaveringly committed to delivering optimal outcomes for customers, employees, and shareholders alike.”

During his previous tenure at Symeres, Berendsen played a key role in transformation programmes, including ERP system upgrades, compliance initiatives, and business continuity planning, while collaborating closely with the board during the company’s restructuring phase.

Guillaume Jetten, chief executive officer of Symeres, said: “Jurgen’s appointment comes at a critical moment for Symeres as we strengthen our operational and financial foundations to scale more effectively. He combines strategic vision with a deep understanding of our business and culture. His return brings continuity and a partner mindset that will benefit the whole organization.”

In his new role, Berendsen will oversee financial operations across Symeres’ global sites in the Netherlands, Finland, and the U.S. He will focus on building financial resilience, driving operational integration, and championing transparency and accountability both internally and with clients.

Berendsen added: “The tone at the top is vital, but equally important is how we translate that transparency and accountability across every customer interaction.”

His financial leadership is expected to support Symeres’ ambition to expand long-term partnerships, integrate delivery models, and incorporate innovations such as AI, further positioning the company as a best-in-class partner for biopharma organisations worldwide.
