Gaelic Laboratories completes first phase of Athlone integration
Gaelic Laboratories has completed the first phase of the integration of Athlone Laboratories following its acquisition of the Irish beta-lactam antibiotic manufacturer in December 2025.
The companies said the milestone marks the alignment of key operational and administrative functions and establishes a combined service offering across manufacturing, packaging, analytical testing and regulatory support.
Gaelic and Athlone are GMP-approved manufacturers of beta-lactam antibiotics, supplying oral products to customers in Ireland, the UK, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Canada and Australia.
As part of the integration, the businesses have launched a joint website outlining their combined capabilities and services. The companies said IT systems, compliance functions and supply chain operations have also been aligned during the first phase of the programme.
Brian Morrissey, general manager, said: “The new website effectively lets our customers and partners see the full range of our combined offering to the market.
“That includes a complete list of both companies’ manufacturing capabilities for different antibiotics, finished product formulations and dosages, packaging services, contract analytical services, and regulatory expertise in different parts of the world.”
Athlone Laboratories was acquired by Gaelic Laboratories in December 2025 as part of a strategy to strengthen manufacturing capabilities in the beta-lactam antibiotics sector.
The companies said operational efficiencies are already emerging through the consolidation of administrative systems and supply chains, while internal communications initiatives have supported the integration of employees across both organisations.
Morrissey added: “Both Gaelic and Athlone are key players in the supply chain for Beta-Lactam antibiotics.
“As we mark the end of the first stage of our integration process, I am pleased to see that the synergies we predicted are already coming to fruition, with a seamless transition for our customers and partners, and I firmly believe that we are going to enhance the future of Beta-Lactams supply in Ireland and Europe.”
Phase 2 of the integration programme is now underway and will focus on further optimisation of manufacturing processes across both sites.
The combined organisation manufactures oral beta-lactam products in tablet, capsule and powder for suspension formulations and provides contract manufacturing and packaging services to pharmaceutical customers in multiple international markets.
