Sharp’s climate targets validated by SBTi as company commits to 90% emissions reduction by 2050

Packaging and clinical trial services provider Sharp strengthens its climate strategy with science-based emissions targets and a roadmap to net zero

Sharp, a global provider of pharmaceutical packaging, clinical trial supply services, and small-scale sterile manufacturing, has announced that its near- and long-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The company’s targets align with the Paris Agreement goal to limit global warming to 1.5°C, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable operations and responsible supply chain practices.

Near-term goal: 54.6% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and 32.5% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2033 (baseline 2023)
Long-term goal: 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 2050, working toward full net zero

Kevin Orfan, president & CEO of Sharp, called the SBTi validation “a significant milestone” in embedding environmental responsibility into the company’s long-term business strategy. “These targets represent a significant, enduring commitment to our planet and to all our stakeholders,” he said.

Sharp has already made progress toward its goals, including powering all facilities with renewable electricity and achieving zero waste to landfill. Its next steps include rolling out a climate transition plan focused on reducing energy use, optimizing supply chain efficiency, and deepening engagement with partners and clients.

“This validation provides us with concrete objectives that will guide operational decisions, from energy use to resource efficiency,” added Hywel Woolf, Sharp’s global sustainability manager.

Sharp is also a founding member of the Alliance to Zero, a pharmaceutical supply chain alliance focused on enabling the transition to net zero pharma products.

With growing pressure from clients, investors, and regulators to prove real-world progress on climate, the SBTi validation offers Sharp a robust, science-backed framework to deliver measurable impact—while supporting its customers’ own ESG goals.
